Founded by Rhodians in the 7th century BC, this city sits on a peninsula extending into the Mediterranean. For years it served as one of the most important ports on Lycia's eastern coast, boasting four harbors. The surviving ruins mostly date from Roman and Byzantine periods, including a main avenue connecting north and south harbors, a square, theater, temple remnants, and three agoras. The theater is a classic Hellenistic structure with a Roman-era stage building. Notable remains include an aqueduct and two bath complexes that reveal the Roman heating system.
